Yesterday Hawkes Bay jumped back in to the mid-20s with Napier taking the nation’s high with 24 degrees. Today temperatures will be in the mid teens almost everywhere in NZ (15 to 17) with some northern centres climbing into the late teens.
One of the coldest places today should be Christchurch with a nor’easter keeping temperatures possibly below teens.

Tomorrow a low in the Tasman will inch closer. It’s a weak low and at this stage doesn’t pose much of a threat to NZ as far as severe weather goes.
Expect a milder night tonight as the clouds build then an even warmer night tomorrow night.
By Monday most places will be cloudy with showers in the north and west.
Next week a brief southerly change behind the low may bring light snow to relatively low levels about Southland and Otago around Wednesday or Thursday. Nothing severe at this stage but certainly something we’ll keep an eye on. It should be short lived – ie, less than 48 hours.

Sarah Lots of rain coming this week. I think your tanks will be filled. It’s the beginning of a wet spell that should extend about 3 weeks, clearing around the 19th.October.

But are we going to get any decent rain? One of our tanks is empty and the other decreasing rapidly. The water companies are busy already. I rode down on the beach the other day and the ground is all dry and cracking up like it does in the summer, its a bit worrying when we’ve only just come out of winter and we are all having to order water in already.

Still very hard to say – the upper North Island has certainly been dry this month. The system has the potential to produce some heavy falls but you’re on the wrong coast. Wednesday there’s another shot of rain too. Will have a better idea Sunday afternoon I’d say.

Looks like something more significant is developing behind the southerly cold snap on Wednesday, with a stationary high i think this is developing below the South Island putting several lows on to the country mid week. Will be interesting to see how bad it gets whether it backs off or becomes more intense . I guess we will have to wait an see .
