16 degrees is the top temperature in NZ this lunchtime and is shared by Whakatane and Whitianga.
The coldest spots are Queenstown and Milford Sound with a biting 1 degree.
A number of South Island centres are in single figures and are expected to climb only slightly higher, as fog and low cloud remain in a few valleys and coastal regions.
The North Island is considerably breezier than the mainland, with the winds pushing in from the southerly direction.
More than 95% of the country is dry, apart from isolated drizzle and light showers in northeastern districts.
