Many regions bask in summer warmth

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Much of the North Island and some in the South Island are enjoying a warm day today with highs in the mid 20s for a number of main centres.

The Auckland and inland Hawkes Bay regions are the hottest this hour with 25 degrees in Whangaparaoa and 24 across much of the central city.  It’s 25 through inland parts of Hawes Bay too.

24s stretch right across the North Island with Whangarei, Kaikohe, Paeroa, Whakatane, Gisborne, Hastings and Wanganui all at that temperature as of 1:30pm.

It’s currently 23 degrees in Hamilton, Whitianga, Tauranga, Palmerston North, Ohakea and Blenheim.

But the warmth isn’t extended to all centres.  Southland and Otago are between 14 and 17 degrees with Dunedin on just 15 degrees.  Timaru and Christchurch are both on 16 degrees.
