Low tracks just east of Northland

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Heavy rain and gales are affecting some parts of Northland tonight.

A sub-tropical low is currently moving down the eastern coastline of Northland and as of 11pm the centre of the low was spiralling just off the coast from the Bay of Islands.

Gales are affecting Cape Reinga and exposed eastern parts of Northland.

Gusts in the Hauraki Gulf are currently reaching almost 100km/h.

The low is deepening as it drifts down the coast and should bring windier weather to Auckland.

WeatherWatch.co.nz doesn’t expect winds to be damaging but says motorists should take care with heavy downpours.
