A low north east of New Zealand continues to drag in cloud cover to a number of northern and eastern North Island centres this afternoon and will continue into this evening after tracking south east earlier than predicted.
The low was expected to continue drifting east today but instead turned south east this afternoon meaning cloud cover hasn’t moved away as fast as the computer models predicted. It means a slightly cooler afternoon for some but perhaps a warmer night.
The South Island remains mainly sunny with high pressure moving in from the west. This high is also pushing in to the North Island bringing clearing weather with it.
Conditions in the South Island will be cold tonight under clear skies and little to no wind.
