There’s plenty of cloud across New Zealand this afternoon as a low and associated fronts move across the North Island and a weak front scrapes the Southland and Otago regions.
It’s been a dull but mostly dry morning in Auckland and this afternoon looks similar however late sunny spells are expected as the low fades out over the city in the coming hours.
It’s been unusually calm in Auckland over the past few weeks, apart from Sunday when winds briefly neared gale force, however strengthening south easterlies are expected over the weekend.
Cloudy weather remains over much of the North Island however it is clearing from the south.
And while it was a cloudy, showery, morning in the lower North Island the sun has come out this afternoon in Wellington with clearing weather continuing today.
It’s still mostly sunny in Christchurch this afternoon however clouds are on the way. As a weak front slips past Southland and coastal Otago the frontal clouds are likely to spread into Canterbury over the afternoon reaching Christchurch mid or late this afternoon, but it’s likely to remain dry.
