New Zealand is enjoying a fairly hot day but the temperatures are down on previous weeks thanks to a slightly cooler wind flow and much lower humidity.
This hour most places in the North Island are only in the late teens or low 20s with Auckland the hottest centre on 24 degrees.
However the sun is still packing a punch despite the lower humidity today.
In Wellington it’s currently 20 degrees with a breezy southerly.
In the South Island conditions are hotter with Dunedin on 24 degrees with an easterly. Many Dunedin readers have told us that this summer has been one of the worst with plenty of cloud and cooler winds. Today’s warmer weather is no doubt very welcome.
Highs in the mid 20s remains through Central Otago but like the North Island most other regions in the South Island are between the late teens and the low 20s.
The coldest populated part of New Zealand is the Chatham Islands on 15 degrees and a cool south easterly.
Thursday’s hottest two centres were both in the South Island. Alexandra and Murchison both climbed to 29 degrees while the coolest weather went to Haast, Waiouru and parts of Hawkes Bay where it only climbed to 18 degrees.

It was so nice not to need the fan on in my bedroom last night, and refreshing to get up to a crisp clear morning. If this is what autumn’s going to be like, bring it on!

Having a physical outside job anything under 20c is a good day for me. Still felt like a bit of humidity in the Warkworth region today but was off set by a nice breeze. At least can get a decent nights sleep now.
