A front moves onto the lower South Island this morning then weakening as it moves northwards, a ridge moves onto the South Island on Wednesday while a southerly airflow lies over the North Island. A ridge covers most of the country on Thursday spreading out from a high in the Tasman Sea.

Tuesday

Blue – Chance of a light frost this morning about inland parts of the upper South Island.

Purple – Southwesterly winds are brisk to strong about some coastal parts of the country during the day.

Wednesday

Not a lot happening on Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure starts to move in, there may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening about Auckland, Waikato and the Bay Of Plenty. Cloud for the east of the North Island with patchy showers or drizzle. Sunny for the West Coast of the South Island, morning cloud clears the lower South Island then mainly sunny. Fairly cloudy from Canterbury through to Nelson with a morning shower or two gradually clearing away.

Thursday

Only a slight risk of a light frost about the Central North Island on Thursday morning then in the afternoon temperatures reaching into the low to mid 20’s across many parts of the South Island especially inland. The lower South Island (Southland and inland Otago) may see late afternoon temperatures reaching into the late 20’s.
