A front lingers over the North Island today and Saturday while a ridge lies over the South Island. Northeasterlies cover most of New Zealand on Sunday while a large high sits out to the east.

Friday

Blue – A narrow band of showers lies from about Auckland across to Gisborne today, there is a chance there may be an isolated heavy fall or two along this band at times this morning. After midday expect patchy showers, some sun may even break through then late afternoon / evening showers becoming heavy with the risk of a thunderstorm about Northland, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty before easing later in the evening.

For the South Island it’s looking like a mainly sunny day in the west and north while Canterbury and eastern Otago has cloudy areas and the risk of a light shower or two this morning.

Saturday

Blue – Isolated showers developing south of Taranaki later in the afternoon, these showers may become heavy with a risk of thunderstorms then easing later in the evening.

A band of showers from about Auckland through to Gisborne and south to northern Taranaki may bring an isolated heavy fall or two during the day.

Warm afternoon temperatures for inland Southland / Otago, temperatures mostly in the low 20’s but a chance they may approach the mid 20’s.

Sunday

Showers about the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa may become heavy late afternoon / evening then easing later in the day. Temperatures about the lower southeastern South Island approaching the mid 20’s in the afternoon. Many parts of the country will reach into the low 20’s during the day, apart from the West Coast of the South Island.

Basically spring is all about winter slowly fading and hints of summer coming in. Next week looks much warmer and drier across the country. We should see a drier trend arriving soon.
