A high pressure system sits west of the North Island in the Tasman Sea over the next three days directing a west to southwesterly airflow over New Zealand.

Monday

Purple – Strong westerlies this afternoon about coastal Southland / Otago then easing in the evening.

Tuesday

Yellow – Temperatures in the east of both islands looking to hit at least the mid 20 degree mark for most with late 20’s possible in a few areas. Right on the coast there is a chance sea breezes may keep temperatures a little cooler, about the likes of coastal Christchurch and coastal Hawkes Bay / Gisborne.

Purple – Brisk westerly winds about the lower North Island in the west from afternoon, mainly just about the coast. Late afternoon / evening gusty northerly quarter winds build about southwestern parts of the South Island.

Wednesday

Yellow – Another hot day in the east, this time temperatures getting up into the mid to late 20’s for most with low 30’s even possible (mainly for Canterbury). Coastal Hawkes Bay / Gisborne may still get a coastal easterly bringing slightly cooler afternoon temperatures.

Blue – Some rain for Fiordland for much of the day with the chance of a heavy fall or two.

Purple – Brisk westerly winds for much of the day about the lower North Island in the west (mainly coastal).
