A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand on Wednesday, a weak front puhses into the west of the North Island while another front lies over the lower South Island.

Sunny spells for Northland and Auckland with west to northwesterly winds, cloudier further south with the odd shower possible now and then. Plenty of high cloud along the east coast. Wellington sees early showers clear to sunny spells, winds strong from the northwest.

Strong northwesterlies ease about the eastern South Island tomorrow morning, mostly sunny weather. Cloudy along the West Coast with rain about Fiordland spreading northwards in the evening / overnight with a few heavy falls.

Rain moves into Southland and Otago in the afternoon then easing overnight, rain may be heavy at times.
