Wednesday sees blustery southwesterlies cover New Zealand

Showers ease during the day for the upper North Island, some sun may break through at times afternoon onwards. Fresh west to southwesterly winds, brisk to strong about western coastal areas easing later in the evening / overnight.

Areas of rain for the lower western North Island, chance of a heavy fall or two. Winds blustery from the west or southwest then conditions easing from evening. Sunny areas with northwesterlies picking up along the east coast, a gusty cool southwest change spreads northwards during the afternoon bringing showers which clear overnight.

Rain for Wellington with gusty northerlies changing southerly late morning, rain eases to showers at night.

Cloudy with the odd spot of rain about Nelson / Marlborough, rain more likely in the afternoon as southwesterlies freshen. Rain clears overnight. A gusty southwest change in the morning for Canterbury brings rain (may be briefly heavy for a time) then easing to showers by midday, clearing at night.

Morning rain eases to showers and sunny spells along the West Coast, showers clear in the evening. Fresh cool southwesterly winds. Early rain eases to showers about the lower South Island, clearing later in the evening / overnight. Sunny areas will start to break through from afternoon about Central Otago, fresh cold southwesterly winds.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation – or – low temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
