A front pushes slowly over the North Island on Wednesday moving in from the west, bringing areas of heavy rain and gusty winds for some. The South Island meanwhile sits under low pressure and light winds.

Rain for the upper North Island, heavy falls for a time especially afternoon then easing in the evening as breezy northerlies (strong about eastern coastal fringes) change westerly. Rain with heavy falls clinging to eastern Bay Of Plenty for a bit longer, not clearing till overnight.

Rain with heavy falls about Taranaki, only heavy / persistent for a time elsewhere about the lower western North Island in the afternoon then easing and clearing late afternoon or evening. North to northwesterly winds, gusty about Taranaki then easing later in the day.

Cloudy along the east coast with scattered rain spreading on occasion from the west, more persistent for a time later in the evening then clearing overnight. Breezy northerlies. Some rain during the day for Wellington, persistent for a time in the afternoon then easing and clearing by evening. Gusty northerlies ease later in the day.

Cloudy with areas of rain clearing late afternoon / evening about Nelson and Marlborough, rain may be heavy at times for Tasman and perhaps Nelson. Breezy north to northwesterly winds. Any morning cloud about Canterbury breaks to sunny spells, light winds tending north to northeast.

Early rain easing to occasional showers along the West Coast, some sun may break through at times from afternoon also. Light northerly quarter winds. Any early showers clear Southland and Otago then expect a mix of sun and cloud, low risk of an isolated shower late afternoon. Light winds.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
White – Snow
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
