A weak low pressure system passes over the North Island on Wednesday while a light south to southwesterly airflow spreads over New Zealand.

For the upper North Island expect morning showers to clear then sunny spells break through with light southwesterly winds. Showers may hang about Northland into the afternoon however especially in the west.

Early rain or showers clear about the lower North Island in the west and east then cloud breaks to afternoon sunny spells, light south to southwesterly winds. Sunny spells for Wellington with light southerlies developing in the morning.

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells about Nelson and Marlborough, light winds. Mostly cloudy for Canterbury with light south to southwesterly winds, there may be a drizzle patch or two mainly inland.

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells along the West Coast of the South Island, light winds. Mostly cloudy about Southland and Otago with light winds, conditions areas mainly dry however there may be some drizzle about at times.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation or cold temperatures, typically below 1 to 2 degrees celsius.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
