A front weakens as it moves northwards over the South Island on Wednesday while the North Island has mainly settled conditions and a ridge of high pressure.

For the upper North Island expect areas of cloud to be a little persistent in the morning, perhaps even a light shower or two then drying out in the afternoon with sunny spells breaking through. Winds from the west or southwest. Afternoon high’s in the mid 20 degree range.

The lower North Island is mainly sunny with light winds, tending onshore in the afternoon. Some morning cloud about Gisborne.

Some morning rain for South Westland eases to the odd shower which clears by evening, further north expect a patchy shower or two which also clears in the evening. Some sun breaking through after morning cloud moves on about Fiordland. In the east expect high cloud and hot temperatures, a cool southerly moves into South Canterbury in the morning then into North Canterbury early afternoon bringing some cloud. Perhaps a shower or two inland.

Southland and Otago see morning shower clear then sunny areas increase, winds from the west or southwest however tending easterly in the afternoon about coastal Otago.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
