A front pushes over the South Island during Wednesday while a northwesterly airflow lies over the North Island.
For the upper North Island expect sunny areas and some cloud, thickening from afternoon then the odd shower develops in the evening. Some rain overnight pushes in from the west. Northerly winds.
For the lower North Island we see cloud thickening in the west, a few showers from evening then overnight rain. Northwesterly winds. Dry out east with mostly sunny weather, high cloud increases from afternoon. Hot afternoon temperatures in the east perhaps getting into the early 30’s.
Heavy rain about South Westland spreads into North Westland during the afternoon, easing overnight. For the east coast expect thick high cloud, a few spots of rain at times about Canterbury from afternoon then Marlborough later in the evening. Winds from the north or northwest.
Rain about Southland eases in the afternoon to the odd shower, easing about Otago in the evening.
