A northerly airflow increases over most of New Zealand today although for the North Island especially the upper half the airflow may be from the west especially in the morning.

For the upper North Island expect sunny spells and increasing cloud, westerly winds tend northwest in the afternoon. A few showers from evening then overnight rain with heavy falls possible in the west. Mainly sunny conditions out east with some high cloud developing from afternoon. Northerly winds strengthen about Cook Strait.

Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing across much of the South Island, cloud thickens and lowers on the West Coast from late afternoon. A few showers for the West Coast from evening then overnight rain with heavy falls. There may be a spot of rain for the east coast overnight.
