A ridge lies over the North Island on Tuesday while northwesterlies build elsewhere, a front moves onto the lower South Island overnight.
The upper North Island has mainly sunny weather with light winds. Some cloud about the lower North Island in the west, morning showers clear Gisborne then sunny areas increasing. Northwesterlies build through Cook Strait overnight becoming strong.
Mostly cloudy for the West Coast of the South Island, drizzle about Fiordland gradually pushes a little further northwards during the day. Rain moves into Fiordland during the evening with heavy falls, moving northwards overnight.
The east coast has mainly sunny weather with increasing high cloud, a cold start about the upper South Island. Overnight northwesterlies strengthen through inland Canterbury becoming strong by dawn on Wednesday.
Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
