Anticyclonic conditions for most of New Zealand on Thursday with an easing southerly quarter airflow.

Northland sees sunny spells on Thursday morning then some afternoon cloud develops with the chance of a shower or two. Auckland and the Waikato see any morning showers or drizzle patches clear then some sun breaks through from afternoon.

Mostly sunny about the Bay Of Plenty, evening cloud then a few late / overnight showers. In the west from Taranaki through to Kapiti expect a mix of sun and cloud with southeasterly winds, there may be an early shower about Kapiti and the Manawatu then clearing. Cloud about the Wairarapa with drizzle, spreading into Hawkes Bay by midday then moving into Gisborne during the afternoon.

Mostly cloudy about Nelson and Marlborough, light southeasterlies tending northerly in the afternoon for Nelson. Afternoon easterlies about Marlborough. Chance of a light shower or drizzle patch about otherwise mainly dry. A mix of sun and cloud for the West Coast, mainly sunny about South Westland.

Canterbury sees cloudy skies and drizzle, drying out from afternoon however plenty of cloud about, not breaking till later in the day or overnight. A mix of sun and cloud about Southland and Otago, a cool start for inland areas.

Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
