A frontal feature moves over the North Island on Thursday afternoon then clears away later in the evening, the South Island has a slight mixed bag although a ridge does build later in the day.
For the west of the North Island expect mostly cloudy skies, a few showers move in during the afternoon then clearing later in the evening, winds from the southwest. The east coast has sunny areas and high cloud, a few showers move in here from afternoon also then clearing later in the evening or overnight.
Chance of a morning shower for the West Coast of the South Island then sunny spells increase. Mainly cloudy in the east with drizzle patches, becoming drier in the afternoon with any remaining drizzle clearing in the evening. Winds from the south and tending easterly during the afternoon.
Southland and coastal Otago sees mostly cloudy skies, the odd patchy shower possible and west to southwesterly winds. Sunny spells inland.
