A low is centred out to the west of the North Island on Monday bringing in a humid northerly quarter airflow, this brings the risk of some unstable weather in the afternoon. Southerlies over the South Island strengthen over the lower North Island from afternoon.
Northland sees sunny areas, chance of a shower mainly afternoon with the risk of a downpour in the south. Auckland, the Bay Of Plenty and the Waikato sees any early heavy rain ease then a few sunny areas may even break through. In the afternoon cloud builds and showers develop again some of which may be heavy with thunderstorms. Humid north to northeasterly winds with high’s reaching into the low to mid 20 degree range.
A mix of showers and dry areas for the lower North Island, showers may become heavy in the afternoon with thunderstorms north of about Manawatu then easing in the evening. Southerly winds pick up from afternoon becoming strong about Wellington and perhaps coastal southern Taranaki from evening. Afternoon high’s in the mid 20’s for the east coast.
Showers about Nelson and the West Coast clear during the afternoon then sunny spells break through, dry spells and the odd shower about Marlborough with freshening southeasterlies.
Canterbury is cloudy for much of the day with some morning rain although it may start out dry about North Canterbury. Rain eases to drizzle during the afternoon then clearing later in the evening or overnight, cool southerly winds.
Morning showers clear Southland and Otago then sun breaking though, south to southwesterly winds.
Blue – Heavy form of precipitation.
Purple – Strong winds.
Yellow – Temperatures around the mid 20 degree mark or over.
