A front and low combination move over the South Island on Friday, winds breezy from the northwest then changing gusty southwest as the front moves through. This front pushes onto the North Island later in the evening / overnight however it will have weakend a bit by then.

A mix of sunny areas and some cloud for the upper North Island, showers later in the evening / overnight as WNW winds change SW. The lower North Island sees cloudy areas, some sun a times then showers later in the evening which clear overnight as northwesterlies change southwest.

The east coast of the North Island has mostly sunny weather, light winds tend northwest. Some evening cloud about the Wairarapa may bring a spot of rain, a spot of rain possible further north overnight.

Sunny areas and some developing high cloud about Nelson / Marlborough, some rain for a time late afternoon / evening then clearing later as northwesterlies change southwest. Rain more likely for Nelson with only a spot or two reaching coastal Marlborough.

The West Coast of the South Island sees rain with the odd heavy fall easing from afternoon as northerly winds change westerly. Canterbury has sunny areas and increasing high cloud, a southwest change hits South Canterbury mid afternoon then reaching North Canterbury late afternoon with showers. Southwesterlies as they move through Canterbury may be strong about the coast.

Southland sees rain in the morning with the chance of a heavy fall or two then easing from afternoon, rain moves into Otago late morning / midday then easing to showers there in the evening. Cool Southwesterlies.
