> From the WeatherWatch archives

A southerly airflow gradually eases over the South Island on Friday however it still has the North Island in its sights bringing a potentially unstable change.

For Northland and Auckland and northern parts of the Waikato, expect any early showers to clear then there may be a few further showers later in the evening. Sunny spells otherwise with breezy southwesterly winds changing southerly overnight.

For southern parts of the Waikato, Bay Of Plenty, northern Taranaki, Gisborne and northern parts of the Central North Island expect mainly sunny weather however late afternoon / evening as a southerly change moves in showers develop also potentially heavy with thunderstorms and hail which clear overnight.

For the rest of the North Island, showers about Wellington spread elsewhere about the lower North Island during the morning as southerlies push through, clearing in the west by evening and in the east overnight.

The South Island sees mainly sunny weather for the West Coast, showers from Canterbury through to Nelson ease during the day clearing for most in the afternoon although the odd isolated shower may hang around till evening. Sunny spells increase after midday.

Southland and Central Otago has a sunny day after a light frost, coastal Otago sees morning cloud clear to mostly sunny weather.

Not all regions and towns have been mentioned above. For specific 10 day information for your city, town, rural community or island please see the 1500 forecasts on our homepage!
