A northeasterly airflow still lies over New Zealand on Friday however it is weakening, a weak area of low pressure forms over the South Island in the afternoon.
Cloudy areas and some sun for much of the North Island on Friday, showers about also especially in the afternoon then easing later in the evening. Showers from Auckland (especially in the south) down through to Taranaki may become heavy in the afternoon with a chance of thunderstorms.
For the South Island we see a mix of sun and cloud for most, the morning may start off cloudy for many with the odd remaining drizzle patch. Showers for many inland areas in the afternoon a chance some may turn into thunderstorms then easing later in the evening. Showers may spread to eastern coastal areas in the evening.
