An anticyclone brings mainly settled weather to New Zealand today, a weakening front pushing into this high brings a few showers to the southwestern corner of the South Island however. This front moves northwards over the country on Thursday weakening further.

Areas of morning cloud break away to mostly sunny weather and some high cloud for the North Island today, there could be some fog to start about inland areas. Increasing cloud for the west of the South Island, showers move into Fiordland during this morning then push a little further northwards later in the afternoon. A few spots may spread into Southland otherwise staying mainly dry. Morning cloud in the east breaks to sunny areas and some high cloud.

Morning cloud for Northland and Auckland breaks to mostly sunny weather, staying mostly cloudy for the southwestern corner, perhaps even a shower or two. Mostly sunny from Bay Of Plenty down through to Wairarapa in the east. Showers for the southwestern corner of the South Island ease in the morning and clear away, mostly sunny in the east then some cloud thickens for inland areas from afternoon.
