A front stalls over the South Island today, expect a north to northwesterly airflow further north. A warm northerly airflow lies over the country on Thursday.
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud today for most of the North Island, some mid level cloud thickens in the southwest. Areas of rain or showers in the west of the South Island, patchy rain develops about Nelson in the afternoon. Patchy rain in the east starts to clear in the afternoon and some sun may break through otherwise fairly cloudy. Any morning rain clears Southland / Otago with sunny spells developing, in the afternoon isolated showers move in (more so inland) with a chance of heavy falls / thunder then easing later in the evening.
Sunny areas and some high cloud for most of the North Island on Thursday with warm temperatures. Areas of rain or showers for the West Coast of the South Island, mainly dry elsewhere with some high cloud. A few isolated showers may develop in the afternoon about the ranges of North Otago then clearing in the evening.
