A ridge of high pressure spreads onto the South Island on Tuesday, southerlies further north.

Sunny for the western North Island on Tuesday, morning cloud and the risk of a shower about Northland clears. A few showers at times for much of the day from Wellington through to Gisborne in the east.

Sunny for most of the South Island, a few morning showers about Banks Peninsula clear. A few morning showers about Southland then clearing, the odd shower pushes into Fiordland (especially in the south) during the day.
