> From the WeatherWatch archives

A large anticyclone to the east and a low pressure system in the Tasman Sea drags a north to northeasterly airflow over the country today. This low starts to move over the top of New Zealand to the east on Friday with a ridge regaining some dominance over the South and lower North Island.

Sunny areas and increasing cloud for most North Island regions today, the odd shower starts to move in from afternoon however only in a few areas, some place may have a fairly dry day. Cloudy areas about Nelson may bring a light shower or two, elsewhere expect areas of morning low cloud or fog then afternoon sun with some high cloud.

A few showers for northeastern parts of the North Island on Friday, a mix of sun and cloud elsewhere. The South Island is fairly sunny however expect a few areas of morning cloud or fog.
