A large anticyclone to the east of New Zealand directs an easterly quarter airflow over the country on Saturday. A northerly airflow increases over the country on Sunday.

Sunny spells and an isolated shower or two for most upper North Island regions on Saturday, more so in the afternoon. Sunny spells for Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Wellington and Kapiti. A mix of sun and cloud for much of the South Island, there may be a shower or two about the Southern Alps in the afternoon / evening. Mainly sunny about the far south.

A northerly airflow strengthens over the country on Sunday, winds becoming blustery over the South Island later in the day with heavy rain moving onto the West Coast during the afternoon and evening.
