A northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, moving around a large high centred to the north and northeast. Still fairly anticyclonic on Tuesday but a weak area of low pressure sits just to the east.

Plenty of morning cloud for the western North Island today then breaking to mostly sunny weather, cloud may be a bit more persistent for Kapiti through the day. Mainly sunny weather out east. Mostly cloudy for the West Coast of the South Island with showers, easing during the day and mainly dry by evening, overnight rain may move back into parts of South Westland. Dry in the east, mid level cloud pushes into Southland and Otago with southerlies by midday.

Some cloud may bring a light shower or two for the western North Island on Tuesday, sunnier conditions likely out east. The West Coast of the South Island is mostly cloudy with showers, easing during the day. High cloud and mainly dry in the east although a few isolated showers are possible about the far south.
