A low starts to move over the top of New Zealand to the east today with a ridge regaining some dominance over the South and lower North Islands. A ridge lies over much of the country on Saturday, easterlies about the far north and westerlies for the far south.

A few showers for northeastern parts of the North Island today, a mix of sun and cloud elsewhere with a chance of morning fog for inland areas. The South Island is fairly sunny however expect a few areas of morning cloud or fog. Cloudy about Fiordland with some drizzle.

A few showers continue to pepper northeastern parts of the North Island on Saturday, mainly dry elsewhere with a chance of fog in the morning for inland areas. Some cloud for the western South Island on Saturday, high cloud with some sun at times out east. Fiordland sees some rain or showers, the odd spit may spread into Southland at times mainly later in the day.
