In the negatives – Wednesday’s #WeatherRisks and your main centre outlook

> From the WeatherWatch archives

We’ve started off cold again – with most inland South Island towns and cities sitting well beneath 0C this morning – and a few places in the North Island too.

Some temperatures as of 5am:

  • Alexandra: -5.8C
  • Gore: -2.4C
  • Wanaka: -3.1C
  • Queenstown: -3.9C
  • Invercargill: -3.9C
  • Taupo: -2.1C

Heavy frosts are expected in sheltered places in the inner South Island again, and while the North Island frosts won’t get as severe, it’s still a chilly start to the day pretty much everywhere!

Main Centres

Auckland

Starts and stays largely sunny – a few clouds here and there – with gentle south to southwesterly winds, and highs in the mid teens.

Wellington

Sunny spells and blustery southerlies, dying out towards evening – highs in the pre teens.

Christchurch

Frosty to start with (2C at 5am), though sunny spells increase through the day along with easterly quarter breezes.
