Hurry, this high is for one day only!

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Tired of the cold, the rain, the wind?  Then get on down to New Zealand for mostly sunny, settled, weather – but it’s for one day only!  And to make this a truly typical ad: Special conditions apply.

That’s right the weather across the country today will be far more settled than weather conditions over the past couple of days as a very narrow belt of high air pressure moves in.

The high air pressure will help shove the strong south west winds well away to our south east and will push any remaining showers out to sea too.  So what are the special conditions that apply?!  Some clouds could create patches of gloomy weather around some isolated parts of our coastline.

High air pressure to our north east and south west will meet over New Zealand to bring a small protective bubble to our weather for Tuesday – but it will be short lived.  By Wednesday a large but fairly shallow low pressure system in the Tasman Sea will start to very slowly drift over the country bringing rain or showers by the end of the day.

On Thursday rain or showers will affect many regions in the upper two thirds of the nation, especially in the north and west. The low is so slow moving it could bring a mix of rain, drizzle, showers and sunny spells to northern New Zealand from Wednesday until Sunday.

Meanwhile a weak cold change may just snip the deep south on Wednesday, but overall conditions in the lower South Island are set to improve this week.

Hi WW, Think here in Whangarei we have that gloomy cloud, makes a pretty dismal looking day. But maybe we just could see some sunshine later hopefully.
