When it gets hot outside, it can be hard to keep it from getting hot inside too. The last thing you want to do is make that job even harder by heating up the kitchen whilst you cook a meal or two.
So on our Facebook page, I asked how Kiwis dodge the inside heat whilst making dinner.
A lot of people said simply that they don’t cook inside. They cook outside. BBQ was a very popular response. Kushla Small said “homemade burgers with patties and eggs cooked on the bbq”. Linda Forsdick said “This is NZ…bbq outside!”
Kathleen Farquhar said that she had recently been talking about how much she hates cooking hot meals in this heat. She says she can’t get enough of salads lately.
Which was another popular answer. Cold meats was also a very popular answer. Christine Williams said “Cold meats and salad almost every day at the moment, different varieties of each”.
Wendy Scarrott said that she will sometimes prepare dinner in the mornings before it gets too hot. Margot Robartes agrees. She says that sometimes she will cook meat way before midday while her kitchen is still cool. For example grilled chicken. She says she will have that with a salad for brunch and the have the rest of it cold the next day.
Of all the response we got though, only one person agreed with my thinking on this. Kylie Martin said “Turn the air con on.”
But since we don’t have air conditioning where I live, all the other suggestions are sounding pretty good too.
So whilst the heat is on, you might want to keep the oven off. There are still many ways to cook a delicious meal without cooking yourself at the same time.
