High pressure to dominate Tuesday for both islands

> From the WeatherWatch archives

We’re looking at a large high stationed right over the country right now, so more settled, sunny weather is the order of the day for most.

South Island

The whole island is looking pretty good, with sunny conditions and afternoon northeast breezes in the east, and sea breezes after lunch in the west.
The middle of the South Island is looking warm with some light winds, while any morning cloud will disappear in the east and give way to a fine afternoon.

Any cloud building up in the interior of the South Island may produce an isolated shower or two (refer to our full forecast for details) but mainly dry conditions are on the cards.

North Island

Mostly sunny up here too, with light winds and afternoon sea breezes on both coasts.
Palmerston North can expect some areas of high cloud at times, though nothing to be worried about.

Morning cloud on the East Coast will break, leading to a largely sunny and calm day – though east to northeast winds will pick up towards late afternoon, but nothing serious.

Anywhere north of Auckland can expect mostly cloudy skies during the day with easterly winds, while the odd shower moves into Northland during the morning.
