Heavy showers not the silver bullet

> From the WeatherWatch archives

The skies are finally opening up over Auckland and parts of Waikato, Bay of Plenty and Northland tonight, but it’s not going to be enough to fix the dry conditions.

Some localised heavy showers will certainly bring a little green back to the grass and top up some rain tanks however downpours are isolated and, unfortunately for many, dry weather will be returning by Friday.

WeatherWatch.co.nz believes the last week of March will be dry and sunny for many of the driest regions of the North Island and Marlborough.

The rain bands that continue to move across the North Island tonight are long but very narrow, giving some regions just a few minutes of heavy rain.

There’s a light shower happening right now a little south of Whangarei. I’d forgotten what rain sounded like. It sounds like it’s already tailing off though – about a minute after it started. Bugger.
