Rain for the upper North Island today, heavy especially this evening as a front and low combination move in from the Tasman Sea. The South Island sees an easing northeasterly airflow. Friday is unsettled for much of New Zealand due to a low pressure system covering much of the country, but conditions ease later on Saturday.
Thursday
Blue – Rain for the upper North Island, heavy at times especially this evening, then easing later in the evening or overnight.
Purple – North to northwesterly winds are strong and gusty, especially about coastal areas of the upper North Island from late afternoon, then easing overnight. Gusty northeasterly winds about the east coast of the South Island ease away this morning.
Friday
Purple – Brisk to strong westerly winds for the upper North Island later in the day, winds gusting to gale about western coastal areas.
Blue – Rain for North Canterbury through to Marlborough. This rain will more likely just be persistent rather then heavy for a time, mainly from afternoon through to evening. However, it is noted on the map due to the dry conditions in that part of the country.
Saturday
Purple – Strong west to southwesterly winds for many coastal areas of the North Island, easing from afternoon.
– Please note, the idea behind this update is to focus on the main weather highlights, which is why not all regions are mentioned.
