Gisborne/Hawke’s Bay deal with heavy rain and below normal temperatures (+6 Maps)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A weak low to the north with sub-tropical connections plus a powerful high to the south is creating heavy rain in Gisborne and parts of Hawke’s Bay today and tomorrow, along with lower temperatures.

Daytime Maximum Temperatures will be below normal for the next 4 days, with some areas inland over 8 degrees colder than usual for this time of year.

The windy E to SE flow will also drive in heavy rain. Our estimates show over 150mm is possible lower down and maybe over 200mm higher up.

MetService has issued a heavy rain warning for Gisborne with 150 to 220mm – which you can view live from the WeatherWatch website here. Hawke’s Bay north of Napier may receive 140mm.

Gales are possible through parts of the North Island with severe gales in exposed areas.

Our latest data shows 125 to 175mm of rain in low lying areas (bright blue), but locally some places could get over 200mm in the next 48 hours.
