Frosty tonight? It’s possible for Southerners

> From the WeatherWatch archives

New Zealand has been split in two these past few days with muggy weather in the north and cold, grey, weather in the south.

With ex-cyclone Debbie about to depart our shores today it’s going to leave that colder air over the South Island but take the wind and cloud away with it – allowing for temperatures to drop tonight.

Overnight lows through Central Otago and other inland parts of the South Island like Canterbury and around the Southern Alps may drop below zero with overnight lows of 0 and 1 degree forecast.

No frosts are coming for the North Island just yet, with a mild night tonight for many – but tomorrow night may be cooler with Waiouru dropping to 3 degrees and a few snow showers on Mt Ruapehu.

The ‘cold grey’ weather in the south? The deep south and SW were sunny during that time!
