It’s a very frosty morning across New Zealand this morning with significant frosts right up to Auckland and sheltered areas north of the city.
Heavy frosts are in a number of areas however some thick high cloud, associated with a low north east of the North Island, has limited frosts in Northland – that same cloud has also crept in to Auckland’s North Shore (as of 8am) and may also limit just how warm some places get today if it lingers.
Meanwhile severe frosts, with temperatures possibly as low as -10, are hitting the South Island.
As of sunrise here were the lowest temperatures across NZ…
WeatherWatch.co.nz says with temperatures hitting -6 in Queenstown and Dunedin it’s estimated other parts of Central Otago could’ve hit -10.

Severe frost here in Coatesville. A little cloudy at 6.30 and 3.4 degrees. Davis weather station showed low for the night of 0.2 at 2.50 am. Temperature has now dropped back to 1.6. Very cold indeed.
