Frosts have already started to form across the country with frosts now confirmed as far north as Auckland.
Last night frosts as far north as the Bay of Islands started around mid-evening and lasted until at least 10:30am even in Auckland.
However while frosts are quite possible this evening in many North Island regions it’s quite likely that sunrise will be frost free, this is due to two reasons.
Firstly west to south west winds are building across the South Island and will move into the lower half of the North Island tomorrow morning. In the top half cloudy periods are affecting eastern areas of Northland and Bay of Plenty – those clouds are expected to increase tomorrow, lifting the temperature a little and melting any possible frosts.
Coldest places as of 9 to 9:30pm
Bay of Islands: 4.1
Auckland: Between 2.3 and 5.6
Hamilton: 4.3 (was 3.4 thirty minutes ago…possibly indicating fog in the area)
Rotorua: 5
Taupo: -1
Waiouru: -4 already
Palmerston North: 3
Blenheim: 1.2
Christchurch: -1.3
Timaru: 2
Wanaka, Queenstown: 1
Check back again later this evening for further updates.
