Frost and snow again – #WeatherRisks on Tuesday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s a freezing and frosty start for much of the country this morning – with most inland South Island areas sitting well below zero degrees before sunrise, and still very cold as we publish.

As of 6:35am, people in the following areas are waking to very cool and frosty conditions:

  • Alexandra: -6.6C (feels like -10C!!)
  • Gore: -3.9C (feels like -8)
  • Queenstown: -5.8C (feels like -10C)
  • Invercargill: -3.8C (feels like -6C)
  • Christchurch: -2C (feels like -4C)
  • Blenheim: -4.0C (feels like -7C)
  • Nelson: -1.5C
  • Taupo: -2.7C (feels like -5C)
  • Whakatane: -0.2C (feels like -2C)
  • Auckland: 3.1C (feels like 1C)

There is also a risk of black ice on many roads, so take care while driving in the shade this morning in the South Island too.

Eastern parts of the North Island may see a low level snow flurry or two in the ranges today, but it’s not looking like anything serious will settle – it may just be an interesting feature.
