Front approaching from the west

> From the WeatherWatch archives

High cloud is creeping in to the west coast this afternoon as a front moves closer to the country.

The frontal system is weakening as it heads towards our shores but will see cloudier conditions rolling for most South Island regions today and most North Island regions along the Tasman Sea.

High cloud has started to develop in Auckland and will thicken later today and into this evening.

Conditions are pleasant in the upper North Island with temperatures in Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty climbing into the mid teens, possibly reaching late teens today.

It’s a different picture in the South Island under thick high cloud and cold nor’easter Timaru currently is on 4.
