Friday’s national forecast – Settled, front approaches from the west

Mainly settled for New Zealand today under a thin ridge of high pressure, good for the last day of Field Days in Kiwee, Canterbury. A front is approaching from the Tasman Sea so some high cloud will be noticed in the skies, rain moves into the West Coast later this evening or overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny, some mid and high level cloud at times. Cloud starts to thicken from evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 20-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy with north to northwesterly winds. Overnight a few showers start to move into coastal areas from the Tasman.
Highs: 15-19

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny, some high cloud. A few morning showers for coastal Wairarapa clear. Light winds, tending easterly in the afternoon for Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 20-23

Wellington

Partly cloudy with north to northwesterly winds, becoming breezy from afternoon.
Highs: 18-19

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, rain develops overnight pushing in from the west. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18

Canterbury

Mostly sunny, some morning coastal cloud clears, high cloud develops during the day. Southwesterlies tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 17-19

West Coast

Sun and increasing high cloud, rain develops in the evening. Northeasterly winds, becoming strong for coastal South Westland from afternoon.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, coastal Otago has a mix of sun and cloud. Evening or overnight spots of rain, starting in the west then spreading eastwards. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
