A ridge of high pressure pushes in over the South Island today bringing some settled weather with it, the North Island still has showers or areas of rain but this will pull back from afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers clear away to the north in the morning with sun increasing, Waikato and Bay Of Plenty should be sunny from early on. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning rain eases to showers, clearing around midday to increasing sun. Snow to 700 / 600m. Southerlies die out in the evening.
Highs: 5 – 12
Eastern North Island
Rain (possibly heavy with thunder / hail), easing from the south, clearing evening although the odd shower could remain north of Gisborne. Snow flurries to 800 or perhaps 700m. Gusty southerlies die out at night.
Highs: 11 – 13
Wellington
Rain eases to showers in the morning, clearing around midday with strong to gale southerlies easing and dying out in the evening. Snow to 700m or maybe 600m at a push.
Highs: 10 – 11
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny for Nelson, any morning showers clear Marlborough then sunny. Fresh southerlies die out during the afternoon, first about Nelson then a bit later for Marlborough.
Highs: 11 – 13
Canterbury
Morning showers clear becoming mostly sunny, morning rain for the Kaikoura area with snow to 500m clearing. Some high cloud spreads in from the south. Early southwesterlies tend northeast in the afternoon.
Highs: 7 – 11
West Coast Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing from the south, evening showers for Fiordland. Light winds.
Highs: 9 – 13
Southland & Otago
Sun and high cloud, light north to northwesterly winds, winds tend northeast for coastal Otago after midday.
Highs: 9 – 11
