An area of high pressure forms over the country today however not before a front delivers some rain to the Waikato and Auckland this morning and possibly afternoon. Still plenty of cloud about with fog patches possible in some areas too.
Northland, Auckland & Waikato
Mainly cloudy skies although a few sunny spells at times about Northland. Expect light winds from the west. Some rain about Waikato then possibly Auckland by mid to late morning . Rain about the Waikato clears towards midday.
Highs: 14-17
Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty
Sunny spells after any early morning rain clearing. Light winds.
Highs: 12-16
Eastern North Island
Cloudy spells with south to southwest breezes, low risk of the odd shower at times right on the coast otherwise mainly dry.
High: 14
Western North Island
Sunny spells and some cloud with southeasterly breezes, any morning rain north of Taranaki clears.
Highs: 14-15
Wellington
Cloudy spells with the odd sunny break at times, cool southerlies ease off in the evening. Cloud thickens overnight.
High: 12
Marlborough & Nelson
Cloudy spells for Marlborough with south to southeast breezes, a few sunny breaks at times. Mostly sunny for Nelson with light winds, some cloud at times.
Highs: 13-15
Canterbury
Cloudy in the morning with any early drizzle clearing, a few sunny spells possible in the afternoon with winds tending northeasterly.
Highs: 10-11
West Coast
Mostly sunny however some high cloud thickens from around midday. Northeasterly breezes. Showers move in overnight.
Highs: 13-14
Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with light east to northeast winds, some cloud at times mainly morning for Southland and along the east coast for much of the day. Low cloud or fog may hang about some inland areas for much of the day with perhaps only a peak of sun or two during the afternoon. High cloud moves in later in the evening for most.
