A disturbed southerly airflow lies over the country today. A trough in this flow moves over the South Island so where showers form they could be heavy at times with a risk of hail. The North Island remains mostly dry although a few showers could affect northern parts of the North Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Sunny and cloudy periods with southeasterly breezes, mostly sunny weather about inland areas from the Waikato through to the CNI. In the morning a few showers may pass through the Coromandel and northern parts of Auckland city then moving into Northland in the afternoon before clearing at night.
Highs: 20-22

Eastern North Island
Sunny and cloudy periods, expect east to southeast breezes. Overnight a few showers develop about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay as southerlies freshen.
High: 19
 
Western North Island
Mostly sunny with a few clouds at times, light winds tend southeasterly. Later in the evening or overnight a few showers may develop
Highs: 17-19
 
Marlborough, Nelson & Wellington
Mostly sunny with light winds, a southerly change moves through late afternoon or early evening bringing showers possibly heavy with hail which ease overnight.
High: 16-20
Canterbury
Sunny to start with light winds tending southwest. Around midday southerlies pick up with showers developing possibly heavy with hail then clearing in the evening.
High: 15
 
West Coast
Mostly sunny about South Westland with light winds, any morning cloud clears. For North Westland and Buller there may be a few early sunny spells, showers move in early afternoon with light winds then clear in the evening as southeasterlies freshen.
High: 16
 
Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear then sunny breaks increase from around late morning. Showers may take a little longer to clear about the Otago coastline, perhaps around early afternoon. Cool south to southwest breezes die out in the evening with frosts developing at night inland.
