It looks like another stormy day is on tap for the North Island.

Showers and a few thunderstorms were dotting the North Island during the overnight.  As we go through this Friday, it is likely that more showers and thunderstorms will pop up.  The left-over humidity and boundaries from the early morning activity will set the stage for development later today.

Head Analyst Philip Duncan used this analogy, “If you imagine the entire upper North Island as a frying pan with popcorn ready to pop that’s pretty much how today is set weather-wise. The risk covers the entire northern half of the North Island, the only problem is working out which kernel of corn will pop first.”

So, until we get later on in the day, it will be hard to tell which areas will be most affected.  At this time though, it looks like the greatest risk will lie in the Waikato, Northland, Central Plateau and Auckland.

For the South Island, it’s whole different story.  Dry, settled, pleasant.  Just generally a lovely day for the entire island.  Highs will range from the upper teens and lower 20’s.  Some mid 20’s are expected for central Otago.  Winds around central Otago could also be a bit brisk with fresh northwesterlies expected.
