A large anticyclone covers New Zealand today bringing mainly settled weather, parts of the North Island may become unstable later this afternoon especially inland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Isolated showers about Northland for most of the day, clearing at night. Auckland and Waikato has sunny spells, isolated showers develop late afternoon then clearing at night. Showers may become heavy about Waikato with a chance of thunderstorms. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes. The Bay Of Plenty has a mix of sun and cloud.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud, isolated showers late afternoon / evening about inland areas, some may become heavy with thunderstorms. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 19-24

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny, mainly near the coast. Isolated showers late afternoon / evening inland about the ranges, showers may become heavy with thunderstorms then clearing at night. Light winds tend easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington
Sunny spells, northerlies change southerly around midday.
High: 20

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny spells, may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening for inland areas otherwise mainly dry. Light winds tend to the east in the afternoon for Marlborough, afternoon northerlies for Nelson.
Highs: 21-23

Canterbury
Cloud south of Banks Peninsula spreads northwards during the morning with southerly winds, chance of a light shower or drizzle patch (mainly morning). Southerlies tend easterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 14-17

West Coast
Morning cloud with the risk of a drizzle patch then afternoon sunny spells, low risk of an isolated shower about the ranges late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry. Light winds tend westerly around midday.
Highs: 18-25

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud, light winds tend onshore. Coastal Otago may have a fairly cloudy day with the risk of a drizzle patch in the morning.
Highs: 15-22
