A cold front moves slowly northwards over the upper South Island this morning then pushing onto the lower North Island this afternoon before heading northwards overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy, risk of a shower (more so about the Waikato and Bay Of Plenty). Later in the evening or overnight rain moves in as northerly winds change southwest.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, rain moves into Kapiti and Taranaki during the afternoon (possibly heavy for a time) then spreading elsewhere by evening before easing overnight. Northerlies change to the south later in the day.
Highs: 18-22

Eastern North Island
Increasing high cloud, may be a spot of rain from midday otherwise mainly dry. Rain develops about Wairarapa in the afternoon as southerlies move in, pushing northwards overnight.
Highs: 23-26

Wellington
Rain, heavy for a time early afternoon as northerly winds change to the south.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Rain, heavy falls possible at times then easing from late afternoon. Northerlies change to the south during the afternoon.
Highs: 16-18

Canterbury
Rain, possibly heavy in the morning inland then easing to occasional showers from afternoon. Snow to 700m. South to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 8-11

West Coast
Mostly sunny about South Westland, rain for North Westland clears around midday then sun breaks through. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-16

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells about Southland, chance of an isolated shower otherwise mainly dry. Otago sees morning patchy rain clear then some sun breaks through, watch out for the risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening however. Light southerly winds, tending easterly in the afternoon about coastal Otago.
Highs: 12-13
